Landscaping & Patio Covers in Austin

Outdoor living in Central Texas is decided by shade, drainage and heat. A patio cover that is sized and oriented properly turns an unusable back yard into the room the family actually uses, and getting water away from the foundation protects everything you have already spent indoors.

Where the number comes from

What pushes the cost up, and what brings it down.

Pushes it up

  • Attaching a cover to the existing house, which often means reinforcing the roof structure
  • Working near a protected or heritage tree's critical root zone
  • Outdoor kitchens needing gas, water and drain runs from the house
  • Sloped lots calling for retaining walls or stepped terraces
  • Impervious cover limits that force a permeable paving approach

Brings it down

  • A freestanding structure set clear of the house
  • Keeping the cover within the existing patio footprint
  • Stained concrete or standard pavers instead of cut natural stone
  • Combining the patio, drainage and planting into one mobilization

Questions

Landscaping & Patio Covers questions we get most.

Does a patio cover need a permit in Austin?

Usually yes, once it is a permanent structure or it changes impervious cover. We confirm the requirement for your lot and jurisdiction at consultation and handle the submittal.

Can you fix water pooling near the house?

That is often the first thing we address. Grading, gutters and subsurface drainage move water away from the foundation, and we would rather solve that before building anything on top of it.

Do you do full landscape design?

We design and build the hardscape, structures and drainage, and we handle planting and bed work around them. For elaborate horticultural schemes we bring in a landscape designer and build to their plan.
